Learn how to generate original ideas, implement them through suitable game mechanics, and create several prototype tabletop (or live role-playing) games.
The Game Thinking Online Intensive will help you take your first steps in designing small but fun games. There are 6 sessions waiting for you: Four 2-hour sessions and two 4-hour workshops.
Under the guidance of an experienced tutor you will design several prototypes of tabletop (or lively role-playing) games, learn the basics of game documentation, and, of course, play your creations together with your classmates!
The course is suitable for you even if you’re not ready to tie your life to computer game development. Instead of diving into technical details, we will focus on applications, i.e. how ideas are generated, how to pick up mechanics and assemble prototypes.
The goal of the course is to help students develop creative thinking and teach them how to bring small game ideas to life by selecting the most appropriate formats and mechanics.
Game thinking is the ability to think within a game situation, considering the rules, limitations, possibilities, and potential outcomes of different moves.
Game thinking is important in many areas of life, including education, business, science, and sports. In game situations, players must quickly analyze information, make decisions, and act on their conclusions. They must also consider the actions of other players and try to predict what their moves will be.
To develop game thinking, it is useful to play different games, analyze them and their actions during the gameplay. And you can also try to create a game experience yourself.
How? – We will learn at the intensive.
