character building
Every card has a specific place on your hero

The rules of Heroes of Levendale are incredibly simple, and the game only takes moments to set up and get going the first time around. As with most good card games, most of the complexity comes from the cards and their abilities. How well they work together. A family-friendly card game, things don’t get too complicated but are interesting enough to keep both younger and older players engaged.

Once you’re more familiar with the game, you can add in deck building. Currently, there are two different starter sets, each with two heroes. You can also buy booster packs containing extra cards from each deck so you can swap out cards for ones that match your playstyle better. As with most new TCGs, there’s a limited amount of variety right now, but that will hopefully increase if the game sticks around.

Heroes of Levendale is a surprisingly entertaining game. At first glance, it seems like it would be overly simplistic, but upon playing the game, it has proven itself to be both charming and a lot of fun. The artwork is cute, and the amount of puns on the cards is commendable. What shines is the entire set of core mechanics around building out your hero. It’s a lot of fun to slowly kit out your character to try and maximize their power, or to counter your opponent’s build

Here’s hoping the game sticks around a while and can continue to produce new cards.
