Heads Will Roll, the pocket-sized dexterity game from Lay Waste Games, is soon heading to mass production. Originally only available in limited quantities at conventions, the popular metallic game will soon be widely available for all to purchase. Containing just a few metal skulls and a rulebook, you can’t get much smaller than this.
Containing nothing more than a golden dragon skull, a golden human skull, a pair of both silver and black human skulls, a small sack, and a set of rules, Heads Will Roll is really portable. The rules of the game are simple. Roll the pieces and try to flick the golden dragon skull into the golden human skull for a point. Extra points are awarded if you can flick it between a matching pair of silver or black skulls, and even more if that pair of skulls is oriented in the same fashion. It’s light, quick, and a lot of fun in social settings.

Any time I’ve brought Heads Will Roll on a trip or to an event it’s been a hit. I’ve had several people ask me to pick them up a set or two the next time I hit up a convention. It’s just one of those games that is so simple and casual that it has a wide appeal. While it may not be for the most hardcore of game nights, it’s certainly a great game to bring to the bar, out to coffee, or even a camping trip. Some of my favorite plays of the game were holed up in a lodge on a snowy day during a Scouting trip. My set passed through so many hands that day, and even went home with a friend for a couple of weeks until I was able to get him his own set.
The fact that Lay Waste Games is now ramping up for a full-scale release of the game means that this widely accessible game will be easier to get than ever before. With a $15 price point, it’s almost an impulse buy and makes it the perfect item to gift a friend, loved one, or yourself. Honestly, I can’t imagine going out without a copy in my bag.
Do yourself a favor, get a copy when it becomes available. It’s silly, a bit luck based, and a ton of fun.
A copy of Heads Will Roll was provided free for review by Lay Waste Games. Since then several other sets have been purchased.
