Game Publishers Donate Portions of Direct Sales to Help Local Game Stores

With many brick and mortar board game stores having to adjust their sales strategies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several game publishers have begun donating a portion of direct sales to game stores. Plaid Hat Games writes that “customers will have the option to enter the name and address of their favorite local game store when ordering Forgotten Waters directly from us.” When that is done, the company will send a check equal to 20% of the retail price of the game.

Isle of Games, a game store located in Tucson, AZ, has created a list of game publishers that are doing similar things. Some companies will simply send your favorite game store a portion of the proceeds. Other companies will take care of shipping and order fulfillment when purchased through the store. The full list can be found on Google Docs.

Update: GAMA also has a list of retailer support initiatives by publishers.
