Your Family Rocks! is a family-style party gaming hitting Kickstarter soon where you use your own family photos to play the game. The goal of the game is to have the most prosperous family by bidding on Family Members, Family Values, Family Rules, and Family Objects with Family Time. Family time is earned at random during the start of each photo challenge, and by completing photo challenges.

The game is a breeze to setup and some of the challenges can be quite entertaining, but the game suffers a bit from the random Family Time earned at the start of each challenge and the random pieces assigned to each challenge. Overall the extra bits about Family Time, Members, Values, Rules, and Objects feels like a bit much. Those parts just don’t seem to work very well and detract a bit from the core entertainment of the game that revolves around the actual deck of photos.

That brings me to my second gripe about that game. I understand it’s supposed to be about family, but the thought of having to go through my photos, pick 60, and get them printed out for use in the game just doesn’t appeal to me. Using the example deck that came with the prototype I received was just fine.

I’m sure Your Family Rocks! will find a core audience that really enjoys it. Unfortunately, my family just isn’t part of that audience. I apologize for this being such a short preview, but the game just really wasn’t for me.

A prototype of Your Family Rocks! was provided free for this preview.
