Spiel Material is a gaming supply company based in Germany. “Spiel” is German for “Game” (I had to look it up). If you are into game design and are looking for quality, cheap materials, this is a great source for meeples, dice, blank tiles and game boards, etc. Spiel Material even carries low-cost replacement tiles for Settlers (see examples below). This site is great for low-cost prototyping. Spiel Market also carries a number of game “upgrade kits.” These kits include components for games like Agricola, Contagion, and Settlers. They specialize in producing a number of unique “twinples.” Twinples are exclusive game pawns designed by the folks at Spiel Material for various games.
Although, the inventory at Spiel Material is heavily influenced by modern euro-style tabletop classics (they are based in Germany after all), their product catalogue is so vast and dynamic that there is certainly a large selection of components for any tabletop enthusiast. Below, I have shared a number of example pictures, including some items that the folks at Spiel Material shipped across the Atlantic for us to check out.
They also carry a number of their own games. For example, Area 51: Top Secret sells for €39 (about $46). In Area 51: Top Secret, players seek to store alien artifacts — ships, weapons, tools, etc. so the public doesn’t find out about them. Artifact cards need to be collected, but the decisive element in the game is that once a player chooses to pick up a pile of artifact cards to place them into storage facilities, they need to store all cards possible, including those that will score points for the other players. The main strategy of the game is thus to use the existing storage facilities and transportation vehicles to optimize one’s own scoring without contributing to another player’s victory. You can find the Board Game Geek listing for Area 51: Top Secret here.
Spiel Market is a large (and growing), diverse online source for game supply and tabletop games. Even with international shipping costs, they are priced competitively. If you haven’t heard of them, give them a click. Prost!
